Review: Investment & Accountancy Evening I

Being selected as a member of the Investment and Accountancy Evenings committee is a great honor. In our opinion, the purpose of those evenings is a true representation of what Risk as an association is willing to achieve. Bringing students in contact with the professional practice of their studies in a very approachable manner on the one hand and socializing with other Risk members accompanied by a view drinks on the other. It was, however, unfortunate to hear that the participation rate of the evenings had declined over the past years. Therefore, it was our task to step it up a notch and use the first Investment and Accountancy Evening to set a benchmark for the rest of the year. We had set ourselves the goal to attract investment interested students by having a lecture provided by a well-known company which name would sell itself and to enthuse our Accountancy and Controlling members by deviating from a standard Big Four bookkeeping lecture.

And how great is it to experience the management and financial control practice up close from a project manager of a multimillion euro investment of the UMCG hospital?

We think it is fair to say that the first Investment and Accountancy Evening was a great success in a variety of ways. How often do you have to opportunity to ask questions to a Managing Director of BlackRock, the largest investment manager in the world? And how great is it to experience the management and financial control practice up close from a project manager of a multimillion euro investment of the UMCG hospital? Moreover, with around 150 participants it has been one of the busiest evenings of the past years and it was great to see that many of those participants also attended the first monthly Risk social in ‘T Vaatje afterwards. Overall, we hope that everyone enjoyed the evening in his or her own way, whether you wanted to get in contact with a potential future employer, you wanted to extend your knowledge in your area of interest, or you just wanted to have fun with your fellow Risk members. Of course there is always room for improvement, so we will reflect, learn, and develop in order to deliver another three amazing Investment and Accountancy Evenings this year. We hope to see you all then!
